When you take a macro photo, try to keep both elbows on the table & breath out slowly as you release the shutter.

Looks okay, but try & get all the materials to merge from one area/point, rather than in bunches. So that you don't end up with a head that's in 2 or more sections & only the latter part is varnished.

Your fly will look and fish great with a little fine tunning as has been suggested, however I do have a question for you. Are you trying to create a slip wing wet fly here or just bunches of the flank separated into a Delta or Dee type wing? Given time and with lots of practice I became quite good at using mallard flank for a flat wing fly. The pattern below is a Hare's Ear & Pheasant thing I make for trout & grayling.

Here are a couple more shown using both dyed and natural flank as a wing, I post these to you to demonstrate the wing slips in various postures. This fly with dyed flank has an under wing made from a pair of Golden Pheasant body feathers. They add color and some bulk to the wing when the fly is swimming.

This would be a sparse tie with just the flank standing alone.

Thanks for the tip Ed, that might be easier for me.

Hardyreels as hillloch said you flies look awesome, the effect I'm looking for is a cloaked effect, although I will try the slip wing in the future.

Cheers Craig

Ensure you use plenty wax on the thread when "rolling" the mallard to form the cloak, it really grips the fibres and takes it with the thread.

Thank you for the kind comments, I am not familiar with the 'cloaking' effect and will watch this thread to see if someone will post a picture of a wet fly with Mallard Cloak. It's possible that I tie in this way but may know it by a different name so any photos would be welcome.
