Default What's a good beginners pedestal vice?

It's my birthday next week and the good lady wife is (hopefully) buying me a vice as a present. I got a beginners fly tying kit last christmas and can't cope with the clamp vice as I coniunually knock it off the table as the clamp is too small.
What would people suggest as a decentish starter pedestal vice? I don't want to take the mick and spend hundreds, but upto £120 might be doable. Less would mean a ceramic bobbin holder too

Snowbee Fly Mate pedestal seems a popular choice, never heard a bad word. 45.00 sorted-it's all you need .

Grommit (Ian Woods) on the forum will give you a good price on an Anvil Apex.

Happy Birthday by the way!

The anvil atlas can be had for £100 delivered if you don't mind importing

I used a Snowbee Flymate for a few years and for the money they are great. Buy the one without the ball joint. I have now changed to an Anvil Apex which is approximately 3 times dearer but I think worth the extra.

If you ain't a tackle tart, have a look at the Regent about half way down the page.

It took me over 25 Years to wear my first one out.

Try and get a second hand vice that you can replace the jaws in.

Doesn't have to cost the earth.

Snowbee, HMH and Anvil seem to get good press. One with changeable jaws should last.
