Default Fly Tying Vice ...

This question is for a mate of my dad's as he doesn't have an internet connection at the minute and he doesn't go on forums much anyway.

He's managed to **** up the jaws on his Regal copy that he's been using for the past 7 years and he's wanting to get a "proper" vice for crimbo.

He's looking at either a Nor Vise, Dyna King Baracuda or Snowbee Waldron. He's used a nor vise before and loves the idea and concept but he's not sure about whether the gimmick factor will wear off after a while?

The dyna king and waldron seem pretty solid as far as he's concerned but just wondered if anyone has any experiance of 1 or more of those vices?

Thanks
AL

I think the appeal of the Nor-Vise would pall pretty quickly. I've used one, and after about ten minutes I was hankering after my LAW. Of the three you mention, I would plump for the Dyna King. No gimmicks, just a good, honest bomb-proof piece of kit.

Thanks Angus, he's talking about how he might take the vice into work and see if one of the machinists can't fix it for the price of a few beers

Dyna king good. but not as bomb proof as you would think.
Thompson Patriot pretty simple, reliable. good value.

Snowbee Waldron for me, I have been using mine every day for the past twelve months and honestly cant fault it. It has done everything I have asked of it and its still like new. Haven't tried the other two but the nor vice looks like a bit of a gimmick to me.

Thanks guys, think he got it fixed, he filed down one of the jaws and says it works ok now.

Although my Anvil might be going out soon, I put a sz 8 in it to tie a lure and hear a ping, turn round and the hooks gone I look behind me and the hook is imbeded in the wall paper behind me

I got two snowbee waldrons sent to me by mistake last year. I have one untouched still in the packaging. looking to sell at £200. PM me if you are interested.

Cheers
