Default Marabou VS Arctic Fox

Hi Guys

This year i tied alot of Salmon patterns many of which envolved "fox" its a material that doesnt seem to be used much introut patterns.

I only use it in one trout pattern "The White" a Danish sea trout pattern that Rainbows go daft for

I have to say i love the effect of Arctic fox ! Its gives the effect of bulk, not saying i would use it "instead" of marabou but its certinally worth playing with.

Anyone use Arctic fox in there trout patterns ?

Stephen

Can't say I've ever used it, I don't even own any, but sounds like it might be worth experimenting with.

Have you tried blending marabou of the same (or different) colour with the fox. What kind of effect does it give when wet? Best of both or waste of time I wonder...

I don't suppose it has the same movement as Marabou, but it looks like a superb Rainbow lure, well worthy of a chuck during the winter months.
I have a few tails/fur myself and may give this a try.

I use Arctic Fox for the tails of my Yellow Dancers as it is more robust and cleans up better after I've hooked and landed a fish.

Arctic fox is good for larger patterns - I use it as wing for streamers. Compared to marabou it is extremely durable.
For smaller lures - think size #8 to #10 - I use dyed rabbit with guard hairs pulled out. Very mobile.

Tried a Cats today tied with fox and found that it didn't tail wrap which I have always had a problem with using Marabou and as Lauren says it cleans up better after landing your fish.

I love Artic fox for my fly tying.
So much more durable then Marabou but will loads of movement still.
IMHO by far the best is the stuff that Sue does at Foxy Tails as reviewed in Trout Fisherman this month.
We are starting to sell more and more of it to the Trout and Saltwater fly tiers now not just the Salmon and Seatrout guys.

i used to put the fox in my cat's whiskers and the rainbows went daft for them too.
Its not as willowy as marabou.
You just put me in the mood of doing some more cats with the fox. They sure look good hooked into nice rainbows.
