Evenin' sportsfans. Well, it's that time of year again... competition time! The eagle-eyed amongst you will have already worked out the brief... Wet fly! A big brief, covering both river and stillwater, and a whole host of fly families and genres. All you have to do is come up with something vaguely original, or perhaps a just twist on classic or standard pattern.
For the purposes of our tying competiton, 'Wet Fly' will encompass:
Trout & Grayling:
- Palmers
- Bumbles
- Muddlers/Hogs
- Dabblers
- Spiders
- Mini-Lures/Attractors
- 'Pulling' Buzzers/Hoppers
- River wets - Spiders, winged wets, 'North Country', 'Clyde' style etc
Nymphs, Buzzer Nymphs, Streamers, Lures, Dries, Emergers, Gold/Bead-Heads
will not be accepted
If you are unsure, please PM me for clarification.

How to Enter
If you wish to enter, PM me or post your intention to enter on this thread.
Once you have come up with your idea, simply tie two identical copies and send them to me.
Please
do not send flies by recorded or special delivery. A missed delivery will only mean my having to trail 5 miles to the collection office.
I really really, don't want to be doing that every day for the next 6 weeks!
Standard 1st or second class post, in an envelope/packet
small enough to fit through the letterbox will be fine.
As always, the competition is about flies for fishing with. Flies will be judged on that basis. Out-and-out fishability and perceived angler/fish appeal will count for more than technical skill and strict adherence to 'classic' proportion/spacing etc. If you have a nifty little idea, then just enter, regardless of you skill level. All flies will remain anonymous throughout the voting and judging procedure... unless you win a prize, then you'll want to kick up a song and dance about it!
Flies will be photographed and put on display in the tying section during the first week of February 2012. First round of judging will be the forum members vote, followed by further analysis from the panel of judges.
All flies will be auctioned off after the prizes have been awarded. As last year, all proceeds will go to Sri-Lanka Childcare, a charity set up by my mum and dad after the 2004 tsunami.
Right, I think that just about covers everything for now. You lot get tying, and I'm off to try and procure, by fair means or foul, some exciting prizes! Oh, and a band of merry judges too. Keep your eye on 'The Wet fly' related threads for prize info and other updates.
Good luck, and perfect tension to your threads.
Rob.
