Default Heckham and claret winged wet

This was just a little experiment useing paired mallard slips for both the wings and tail, but I'm not that stuck on the tail as I think its just crying out for GP tippets. There was a few flecks of red hare in among the claret hare dubbing but I decided to leave them in as I quite liked the effect which is a good excuse for 'can't be bothered to pick them out' Tied on a kamasan B175 size 12.

i think your right about the tippets, something in a dark red or a claret would look good

Great looking fly Mark, you are right about the tail, does not look right. Also the gold tinsel looks flat, maybe just the angle of the photograph.

Thanks ST Fortbhoy and Eddie, yup I knew you'd agree on the tail but I wanted to post it just to make sure my feelings were correct, so thanks for the verificatin and it will be tippets next time.

It's Lagartun oval tinsel Eddie, it does tend to have a flattish look to it, this is lagartun in small size which for a size 12 is probably a shade too big but for a size 10 would probably be about right.

Wouldn't knock that tail just yet as the fish could well prefer it that way, Dark colors are good trout fly material.

Nice fly as usual

I blame that Ray Bergman Dabhoy, he's put far too many ideas in my head, I'll try and put things right by tying one with tippets, hot orange ones perhaps as I'm quite partial to the hot orange

Looks good Mark, although while not saying the tail wouldn't work I would prefer a tail that contrasted with the wing.
