Default Fly tying bags?

There are many fly tying bags on the market.

I have both the old style Scierra fly tying bag and the Airflo Outlander fly tying bag.

Both have their places with me, as the outlander is smaller than the scierra and I find it better for travelling, and to keep my essential/most used material and the Scierra as a sort of stock bag as its probably 1/4 of the size bigger.

I've had a look at the Fishpond bag too and its about the same size as the outlander. Most of the 'Pro tiers' at shows use the Fishpond... What's your favourite?

Scierra one is the best I've seen. It certainly packs a hell of a lot of kit in. Pretty good quality too.

Me too, although the newer version isn't as good as the one it replaced, as is often the case with tackle-related stuff. Pay more, get less. Ho hum.......

I searched hard to find one of the last of the older ones a couple of years ago, (drove up to Garvagh to buy it, incidentally ) and jolly glad I did as I am well chuffed with mine

I have the Stonefly bag, this one is a replacement as the zips went on the first one, the zips are going on this one too!. The metal tags are made of such a soft metal that it breaks off. The plastic sleeves that come with bag are so prone to static that you need a second person on hand to get the feathers out of the bags! The tubes and boxes are very useful, the tool section less so.

Then I tried the hard Fishpond bag, which was a complete waste of time, when only half full the lid wouldn't shut. It is too rigid and too limiting.

My wife bought the small soft Fishpond bag which is great for a fishing trip or tying a small range of flies but doesn't suit my needs. She finally settled on a Fishpond reel case which is twice the size of the fly tying bag, has one rigid side and holds enough materials for a show or demo with ease.

I menawhile reverted to those old standbys, a carrier bag full of feathers, and the rest in a "really useful" box together with my vice bag.

Regards

I've got three ... Stonefly (floppy and cr*p), Fishpond (the original hardshell one, very good) and the C&F Marco Polo, (small and excellent).

I bought the Marco Polo because I have the C&F Marco Polo 'vice and tools' in a flybox set. Like the tools, the bag is excellent, it's well designed, compact and is capable of holding a surprising amount of materials. It's really good to take on holiday as it only takes up a small corner of boot space which, when you have a two year old, is a marked advantage!

I have a few mates at the fly tying club who use the Stonefly ones and say the same, it just seems to fall apart in all ways!

I looked at the Marco Polo bag and it seems great for tools and a few bits and bobs. Very well made.

For size and quality the Scierra bag is great, sometimes I find it too big though when going back and fore the club.

Im surprised about the comments of the Fishpond though.. glad I hadn't got one now
