Question Jungle cock eyes, alternatives?

Much as I like the look of them, I can't bring myself to pay the price. Has anybody any ideas for alternatives?
Thanks.

For such a unique feather, and the affect it brings to the fly, there are no real alternatives Bill. A good JC cape will last a long time, especially if you tie a wide range of flies, such as trout, sea trout and salmon flies. A worthwhile investment.

Hi Bill

I felt the same many years ago and bought some artificial JC feathers from a shop called Kendle Sports that had a fishing tackle section they're Lureflash.
The feathers are printed on plastic faced paper and you peal them off. Having said all that they're a poor substitute for the real thing and I've never done it again.
I know that was no help at all.

Bill, I did attempt some myself. Had bought a pack of JC subs which were just cock hackle feathers with a white and a yellow blob of paint/varnish on them. So I tried it myself. Did work. I used Humbrol paint and applied with a pin.

Very quick replies, thanks guys.

I fear that you may be right Stuart and Alban. Oh well, crimbo is coming up and my doting family are only too ready to shell out my money on me

Rob, that looks interesting as I do a bit of painting in Acrylics so I have the paint. something to do when getting bored with tying up Cats

MacMagoo - I'll have a look at those. Thanks

Sorry Ged, our posts crossed. Similar to Rob's post.

Hi Bill
I was the same I didn't want to shell out that sort of cash for a cape but in the end I did and have never looked back since then I have bought about 11 of them and dyed a few and I would buy more
Cheers Richy

Hi Bill. I.M.H.O. there’s no alternative for Jungle Cock occelli feathers; this is due to their incandescence, which I‘ve never seen repeated anywhere else in the natural world.
There is a pattern developed at the beginning of 1980, which is called The Holy Goat. This pattern used feathers from another endangered species: Satyr Tragopan.
A few pictures of the Satyr Tragopan are below.
Sorry I really help can't with your question Bill, but I hope my answer is of interest.

Richy, I'm weakening.

Well, it was of interest Paul. However I carefully googled Satyr Tragopan to make sure I wasn't being wound up
Never heard of the Holy Goat and no luck googling it. Heard of the Goats Toe but never tried it.
