Default What Basic MAterials

I'm hoping Santa is going to bring me a tying vice for christmas but being new to fly fishing and a virgin when it come to tying I have no idea what the essential materials are. All i have been advised so far is to avoid the 'complete' kits because I'll end up with a load of coloured threads etc that I'll never use.

Ta Very Much

Mick i get a lot of requests for kits to be made up for people.
The best advice i can give is work out what type of fishing you want to tie up flies for ie Lakes, river, Saltwater etc then contact one of the trade embers on here who offer fly tying materials and they will help you select the best materials for you according to what flies you want to tie and the budget you have.
Hope this helps.

Mick, there are plenty of threads here covering this subject, try using the search facility. You will need different materials for say sea-trout/salmon fishing than you would for either lake or river work. So if you can give some more info as to the type of fishing you do, it'll be easier for us to help you.

Think about the flies you use the most- say six to start with ,then go through the SBS section and write down the materials needed .This will give you a good start to which you can add in the future

all the best Nick
