Default Is it wrong ?

I have an idea but not sure if it would be considered wrong or cheating

I was thinking of creating a snail imitation out of an empty snail shell and filling it with epoxy (for a sinker) or something lighter for a floater.

What do you think ? I'm not sure myself if I'm honest.

Not a great deal different to applying sand to epoxy to create a sedge 'case' or even employing the use of a real sedge case.

Give it a go, see what happens.

Do people actually use real sedge cases ? I was down the res the other day, which is now very low as its being drained for repair, and there were big piles of sedge cases in places. Was quite interesting to see that there were definite concentrated areas of them about 1-2ft square. There were plenty of others as well but the patches were solid with them (and snails)

Well it wouldn't be an imitation then would it? I would be a snail on hook. You haven't tied/created it..... so it's not fly tying, therefore not a fly..........................therefore, not fly fishing.

As the saying goes.. if something feels 'wrong', it usually is.

Go for it.
Me and a mate have both tried to copy snails. I've used dubbing covered with bug bond. My mate has used epoxy putty, painted and varnished. No luck yet, either of us.
