Default Ribbing

Folks,

I'm looking for some gold and silver ribbing. The spools I had were not marked so no idea of the manufacturer. Also the ribbing tended to flake when wound. It's for GRHE and ribs on wet flies. I've had a look at a few sites but can't seem to find what I'm after.

Hope this makes sense.

Try using Gutterman "Sulky" tinsel, very stroing and lots of colours
Around £4 for 200 meters, from hobbycraft and haberdashers stores

Cheers

Usually the case with cak, Eddie.

Not sure if yer on about wires and oval or what?

Most branded wires and tinsels are usually ok, but I've found Lagartun to be far and away the best oval. In Lagartun sizes you need 'fine' (read small) for 14,s and 12's, sometimes 10's, and 'small' (read medium) for 10's and 8's, sometimes 12's.

Standard wire - not much point searching for anything else other than UTC - loadsa colours, good quality, reasonably priced. You'll need small and 'brassy' (medium).

Never had much of a problem with any flat tinsels or holo.... only the red seems to flake off.

Some do use flat tinsel and other wire or oval tinsel.

If it's flat tinsel, I've got some Gordon Griffiiths Mylar tinsel. Gold one side, silver the other. Have had it years. I also use Uni Mylar, again gold one side, silver the other and this is thinner than the Griffiths.
For wire I'm using IMPEX 34 gauge beading wire and also have their 28 gauge pure copper coated wire. These I bought from a craft shop.

Thanks Rob, I was on about Oval. I'll get some Lagartun ordered, seems to be the right choice.
