Yes, especially if there are perch fry on the menu.

What about a few cats whiskers long and short shank. They are easy to tie
and catch plenty of fish.

It doesn't require much fly-tying skill, more like jewelry-making, but the Beaded Apps bloodworm is deadly on small stillwaters, especially silty areas and weedbeds. Fished as a point fly with a buzzer or two on droppers, v-e-r-y s-l-o-w retrieve and BANG!

I've caught on the Appetiser but it pales alongside a Cat's Whisker which is another easy tie and catches thousands of trout all year round. The linked video includes Jungle Cock cheeks but they are expensive and it will catch perfectly well without them. Goose biots in hot orange give an nice aggressive 'go-faster' effect for less money.

Tight wraps!

Fully Agree Paul. Used to use goose biots before I was able to afford a jungle cock cape and find the goose biots stand up to trout teeth much better and the fish don,t seem to mind!

Have a go at the Apps too. Just buy some red stretch floss. Some tiers will swear to certain brands but I got some Veniards out of a bargain bucket and the Trout seem to like it. Likewise some people pay a lot for the beads but if you go in a craft shop you should be able to buy a box of rocailles (silvered glass beads) for a pound, or two at most. Not all the beads in the box will fit on a B175 but a B170 or a fine wire hook like a Tiemco or Grip barbless work as well. I tend to tie them on a size 12. Any hot orange or hot red thread or floss will do for the tag.

Oh, and any small black buzzer will pick up fish throughout the winter, good practice for your thread wraps.

Don't dismiss a few simple tadpole style lures, green/black always produces in the winter months
