Default peacock eye feathers.

Looking for advice please. Watching Davie McPhail tying quill buzzers I'm always impressed with the segmented bodies he is able to produce. He always holds up a peacock eye feather which, in terms of the size of the individual quills makes my purchased eye feathers look positively skinny. As a consequence, I can'it seem to reproduce the segmented bodies like his. The other thing i note is that he ties in the quill by the butt end but the quill feather seems uniform in its width.

What I'd like to know is 1. Am I doing somethg fudndamentally wrong and 2. where can I buy larger eye feathers with decent, fat individual quiils? (I've tried the usual outlets)

Regards,

Jaykay

Make friends with Davie on facebook and ask him where he sources his pc eyes. I asked him some hook advice and he was only too willing to help

I'm sure Davie gets his peacock eyes from Veniards packs, need to text him and ask but I'm sure of that, also if your looking for a nice eye squeeze the eye to see if you can see a shine from it, and also try and take a fiber from close to the center of the eye for better bodies, its all about trial and error trying to find decent eyes, I've bought some and they have been pathetic to say the least now I usually get them from Veniards and the eyes have all been good its better to go into the shop and look for yourself

Davie gets asked this on a regular basis and he points people to the GAC, Veniard and eBay. I would guess he is like everyone else and sifts through them to find the best for his use and the videos.
Lucian has very nice quality, also look in the classified section of this forum.

jaykay, i see your from Fife. get yourself down Dunfermline High Street, grab one of the peacocks wandering around there and take as many feathers as you want for free.

Thanks, Lads for your thoughts. I'Ve tried veniards and Fkytec and Dave Downie, all with disappointing results. Maybe I shoudl try to look more carefully at each feather as Kendo suggests.

As for Bob's reference topPeacocks in my local high street I would be tarred and feathered if I dared to molest one of the town's very tame peacocks.

I'll also try and find lucien on the forum classifieds.

Thanks again.

John
