Default Do Fly Tyers (people) see colours differently?

Have often wondered when challenged by the missus if a piece of material is black or is it blue, or a colour being blue or purple. That seems to be the best example for me. Feel sure that there are other examples particularly where there are physiological differences.

But do we all see colours differently?

If someone feels that this thread should best be placed elswhere please feel free to arrange a move.

Thanks for having a 'butchers'.

It most likely means one of two things or a combination of the two. We have cones in our eyes that act as sensors that are able to receive three colours: red, blue, and green. Depending on the number of cones you have it would be possible to see slightly different colors. Also a derivative of Vitamin A is necessary for cones to work hence why some people see better in the dark.

The second possibility is that our brains interpret the information from the cones differently. Keep in mind that our cones can only sense three colours and that it is this combination that determines the rest of the colours. If our brains interpreted this information differently, different individuals may see different colours.

Yes we all do see colours differently but light quality is the biggest variable.

Despite decades of research we do not know for sure what a fish's (Trout's) response to colour is.

In relation to fly tying I have read a few times that anglers restricting them selves to just black and red for a season did not notice a drop in catches.

Modern life is now awash with colour exactitude. Your computer screen for example can display 64 million arithmetically definable colours to a bit depth of 24.

I worked in colour photo-reprogaphics for 25 years and being a good colourist retoucher is like an experienced wine taster. An acquired skill backed by the gift of excelent eyesight.

What colour is black? Kingsmill Moore said the only true black was from the ostrich!! Claret is a colour which I find difficult. When they say light claret or dark claret what is the reference point? Suppose it depends on which plonk was drunk the night before. Fiery brown and sooty olive are another 2 I cant fathom. Fiery brown is something to do with the colour of leaves in Autumn (Malone) Around here they are a beautiful Golden brown (whatever colour gold is) The colour of soot depends on what you have been burning.
What ever tie up a few of each colour just for the crack--keeps you out of HER way.
PS plenty of carrots improves VIT A and hence night vision.
HAPPY TYING

Its all very complicated and over my head
I remembered a programme that Capn fishy went on about and was spoken about on a thread in the photography section but for a bit of info here is a link.

Always assumed black is the absence of colour and therefore not a colour. Often see blue in black though, even when it's supposed to be Jet Black. Like Maharg, I also have difficulties with the green, lime, yellow and chartreuse stuff. Having a selection or choice in front of me I'm fine, but lone spools and cut-offs I sometimes struggle.

Still, I'm not as bad as Ted Lowe.... "Steve is going for the pink ball - and for those of you who are watching in black and white, the pink is next to the green."

O my Luve's like a red, red rose,
That's newly sprung in June:
O my Luve's like the melodie,
That's sweetly play'd in tune.

As fair art thou, my bonie lass,
So deep in luve am I;
And I will luve thee still, my dear,
Till a' the seas gang dry.

Till a' the seas gang dry, my dear,
And the rocks melt wi' the sun;
And I will luve thee still, my dear,
While the sands o' life shall run.

And fare-thee-weel, my only Luve!
And fare-thee-weel, a while!
And I will come again, my Luve,
Tho' 'twere ten thousand mile!
