Default how many you tie?

Hi all,
I hopefully very soon, going to start tying my own flies.
I've been interested in the idea for a long time now when me dad taught me to tie a few for him.
So far the vice is on order for delivery, next to order tools and material.
Can wait!

I also love reading and viewing the pics you guys and girls post.
Out of interest, when you guys tie and post your patterns, how many of the one pattern do you tie for your fly box +/- ?

Thanks for reading, its just a short question for interest.
cheers
Séan

One to fish, one to lose, and one to give away.

I like even numbers for some strange reason.
At times I'll spend all day tying and can notch up quite a few, some times I'll just replace lost, damaged or rusty flies.
Good luck with your tying and enjoy.

It really depends if it is experimental its usually 3 but if its the good old staple diet flies its usually in batches of 6, either that or just 1 or 2 as replacements.
Good luck with the tying

As I am relatively new to tying and tend to experiment quite a bit. I'll always tie around four / five of any one pattern. I tend to give a way quite a lot to my fishing mates, so that always keeps me busy at the vice.

From the point of view of practice and inproving your skills tie 6 of the one fly. If you have 6 exactly the same you have cracked it.
If not, disregard any dodgy ones and keep going until you have the six.

I give away more flies than I generally have in my box.

I tie 6 - usually a range of three sizes, two of each size. Coz I know I'll lose one up a tree and want that exact size to replace it. But if it's a new pattern I'll also tie some extra for my boat buddy.
