CDC source?

Forgive me if this is a crass question but do many tiers ever source their cdc from the waterside instead of suppliers? I say this because I have scant experience of cdc... all my successful dries are simply hackled and I've been embarrassingly slow to experiment with other materials .... but I aim to trial cdc more in the future. I sometimes notice what seems to be copious amounts of cdc on the banks of local waterways but assumed (because it was free) this was useless fluff... not the real stuff. Put me right someone! Are some ducks' bums greasier than others?

lucians cdc is the best i've used by far,phil at fly tying boutique does good cdc also as does cookshills,if your buying cdc from cookshills get the wild mallard its very good

Many thanks for the recommendations but it seems no-one gathers cdc from the wild then? Surely there are other mean sods like me who relish a freebie?

you wont find cdc plumes on the waterside, if you realy want them you will have to catch the 2 legged bread chompers yourself.

I am slightly puzzled as to where you are finding all this cdc lying about?
I do however pick up loads of free feathers and furs from my shooting mates.
