Default Cruncher Cape

Time to start topping up the cruncher box but My greenwells cape has seen better days. Not sure what cape to go for now as i've done a search on the site and it looks like there are a few options. Greenwells, furnace, golden badger and Junglecock come up quite often so which should I go for??

I like my crunchers to have a small hackle so I'm airing towards a metz furnace hen cape but don't want to spend £20 if there's a better option.

If I'm pushed towards another greenwells can anyone tell me who's doing dyed greenwell's hen capes now that Gerry has disappeared.

cheers

G.

I find that if I buy a standard "red game" indian hen cape it comes with a darker centre area anyway which is fine (and cheap) for crunchers. The metz hen capes are great for having lots of feathers in smaller sizes but the flu is quite stiff for a hen cape. My metz furnace does have a lovely, well defined, centre strip but only towards the tip. I find indian hen capes are not so distinctly marked. I recently bought an indian badger hen dyed orange and one dyed red from Lathkill. Again, the dark section is not so distinctly marked as the metz - better to think of them as more of a mix than having a distinct light/dark separation. Not suggesting you'd want red or orange for your crunchers but Lathkill might also do more appropriate colours. Just my experience so far.

Get yourself a whiting bronze grade hen neck. Will last for years and the quality is fantastic.
