Hehe! God it makes me squirm each and every time I see Peter Ross... was the very first fly I attempted. I can tell you that yours is infinately better than mine, by virtue of the fact that it's still on the hook!

Not an awful lot wrong with any of those, Zim. Nowt that a little fine-tuning, practice and attention to detail won't sort out.

Same goes for the GP topping tails though, as with your 'bushy bobs'.... a little shorter. Having said that, is there anything in fly tying more delightful than the long, slow, seductive curve of a GP topping? I'd rather have it on the long side, than too short.

Ditto to all that scratch said.

Just now to spend lots of time (and probably money for loads more materials ) to perfect them.

Hi
Cheers for the advice boys, think you may have hit the nail on the head, attention to detail, i am sure i had a school report that said that once! i cant help myself with the gp tails, they just look the mutts nutts!
will contact you re materials if that is ok, peter ross looks so simple, but is a ****** to tie, so few things to get right that i seems to make it harder..................

Thats a perfect way to improve your tying Zimtrout, this is where the posting of flypics really counts and that's how I have kept improving and analysing my mistakes as decent pics like yours will show up your mistakes and then you can work out what you need to do in order to perfect each pattern. For example (sorry I'm aving a witter) the peter ross as Scratch has mentioned, is a very good attempt for a beginner and yes there are tweaks to be made in order to create a better proportioned fly, but the point is that you can see very clearly what needs to be done in order to achieve the result of a nicely tied peter ross (and no its not easy as I also remember my first attempts were more peterpan than peter ross). It looks like you are tying the hackle in after the wing on the peter ross or maybe its just the impression its giving as I can see the wing slightly over the hackle, so if you tied the hackle before the wing and once youv'e tied in the hackle and wound it pull it back and downwards and apply some tight turns of thread to keep the fibres in that position, this will get the hackle fibres going back and angled toward the hook point. I would also recommend useing less bulk in the thorax as this will be contributing towards the hackle having a tendency to not fall back as easy (the cruncher effect as I call it) But very good attempts at all of them, nice one.

You have just tied 3 flies that I fish on a regular basis and a damn sight better than I did in the beginning.I cant really say anymore than has been already but will agree about fine tuning the proportions and attention to detail.
Keep up the good work, take your time and enjoy
