Default Pike fly hooks

Hi,

My local supplier has gone out of stock of good old Hayabusas 6/0, so i am forced to buy online. Can you recommend a reliable retailer with net page from UK which stocks good pike hooks. Sizes 6/0 and also 8/0.

Any opinion on Ad Swier hooks by Partridge? Never tried those.

I think you will like the Sakuma Manta Extra 545 - it's a great hook.
I use the 7/0 for tope too . Click the image to open in full size.

Very cost effective; superb black nickel finish with a tiny barb that can easily be crushed.

Links to two UK retailers are within the pics; or you can google up plenty more.

Sakuma Manta's are also sold as Varivas Big Mouth.

Correct - and the 545 is the Big Mouth Extra.

This is by Veal's who have quite a good mail order section.

Do you use the hook 'MJB'?

Default As swier absolute pike

I don't use anything else, which means I am both entirely happy and have no grounds to make comparison! As with any hook they need to be properly set, once so they hold very firmly. Maybe the longer shank ad swier model would do better for poppers. Both here, scroll to the bottom of the hooks section (Austen, barramundi on the forum)

I use the Vaviras/Sakuma also for my pike flies along side the Gamakatsu B10S which is a superb hook.

BTW does anyone know where i can get more B10S hooks at a good price?

Thank you all for your contributions and suggestions. PiB, those hooks do look like the right stuff, are they easy to resharpen?

The thing that worries me about them is that wire looks very thin. Are they very elastic? Once i had some Partridge hooks that i kept loosing fish. Finally i came to conclusion that the huge elastic deformation of that hook was to be blamed.

BlueOne

They are 'chemically sharpened'.

To be honest, they are so inexpensive that I just throw it away if the point is damaged.
