Default Beginners kits

Why cant one of the fly tying material suppliers on here come up with a descent little starter kit of materials and choice of vices to go with it depending on budget for the vice.
Must be a market there for someone and with Xmas on the way.
most out there at the moment are full of Cr@P thats not needed.
Come on boys.
Mike

You are absolutely right. Someone would have a nice wee line, with lots of recommendations, if only they put together more definitive tying kits. A great starter kit would be one with all you need to tie a whole range of spiders and winged wets. That would keep the beginner happy as a pig in shoyt for long enough.

Speak to the traders on the forum who will no doubt be more than happy to meet your needs.

Be aware of the Midge's first comment though... You will eventually, sooner or later, start spending ALL your pocket money every month on tying gear which builds and builds and eventually it all starts to merge into one and this month's new purchases get absorbed in there only to be rediscovered a year or more down the line. LOL true though.

If I were putting together a kit for a beginner tier, I don't think I would include any materials for winged wets. I'd be focussing on lures firstly - generally easier to tie and more likely to find use at christmas time in stocked stillwaters.

Different worlds buddy. I grew up on the Clyde and when you went to the tying clubs you were handed a sheet to follow starting with black spider, then black spider with a silver tag, then a greenwell spider, then moving through up to adding ribs, wings etc.... It was all based around tying Clyde style flies and I firmly believe that the structure taught us many of the essential tying skills, in the correct order. I suppose things are different these days with the advent of internet and youtube where realistically you can watch and learn to tie a new fly in minutes.

Hence I guess this is where lies the problem, everyone is looking for different stuff depending on the waters and style of fishing, a conundrum

Well just may be a range of kits
As posted in another thread I think the following would suit many.
B175 or similar in 12# and 10#
buzzer hooks 12# 10#
peacock herl
seal dubbing, yellow, claret, olive
rib wire gold and silver
selection of marabou white yellow green/olive red black
pheasent tail
some hackles
6/0 thread black, red,
may be some glo floss for tags and buzzer cheeks
All for say £20ish and then choice of tools vice
Mike

nobody is satisfied with the kits that are out on the market now so why would it make any difference if someone else came out with a kit?

Ideal would be a basic kit inc vice, thread, bobbin holder etc with a couple of optional material packs depending on what the purchaser wants to tie with the appropriate hooks and materials for several patterns

A perfect idea and a real puzzle why no one has done it yet.
