Default Some more flies

I say some more, but just 3 anyway, tell me what you think, I do need to improve the teal wing, it was very difficult to use for some reason, or is this normal?

Next year, I am very likely to get a job, I will be saving up and may buy a new vice, and I have a list of flies and the materials for each one, if this becomes possible, I'll post a thread and pictures of the flies think there 20 or so flies, so will make a nice thread.

Quite please with how this turned out

Not so pleased....The eye of the hook is hardly showing, I'll be surprised if I can thread it onto a line...

Could be better, i.e., smaller head, or none at all...if that's possible for me, maybe I could finish off the fly in front of the eyes? The little thing sticking out at the front has been cut off Think it was a single fibre of stripped marabou

its take a while to get used to folding the teal to get it the right shape and size you want its not a bad attempt tho will certainly catch fish, what thread did you use for the blob? trying leaving extra space at the front of the blob when your tying off the fritz so you can get a nice neat head, the lure will catch fish aswell. Try watching a few of davie mcphails videos on youtube they will be a great help

the teal blue is a belter really well tied, i would be more than happy with that. when tying off fritz strip some of the fritz from the core it will make it easier and give you a better head finish.

Hi James

The Teal Blue and Silver is not too bad but the orange fritz cat is all wrong. The head is too chunky and too much thread. The wing has too much marabou and should drape to the back of the tail. The tail is too stubby and the marabou fibres should be the same length.

Thanks for the replies, I will have another go at these flies tomorrow, I'll use all of your info and try to improve them...
I thought that these would be the kind of replies I would get

How do I fold the teal wing? I just used 2 slips, didn't know about the folding technique.

Thanks again

Best Regards

With the cat, tye the eyes on first and leave a small area infront of them to finish your head, the eyes will then govern the rest of your flies proportions.

Keep at it. You are improving

Nice attempt mate love the First one
The blob well not so good as you know ( just the head )
( I used to put a paper clip in the eye before I build the head
So the eye is kept clear )
Still well done it's not as easy as people think
Regards

Thanks Toxic, nice idea putting something in the eye of the hook before tying the head, I'll try that out
