Default Crane Flies

My attempt at a detached body foam crane fly, I used black legs over natural pheasant tail as most crane flies I see have very dark or black legs, tell me what you think.

Thanks brannan, here is one more, I wanted to try out deer hair as a detached body, it could have been a bit longer but it's alright, I think I still prefer the foam though

Thanks Bob, the foam was sent to me by someone from the forum so I don't know what it is called but to describe it, it is only about 1mm thick, only the outside part of the foam is coloured, the inside is white and it feels and looks a little bit like very soft leather, I drew the markings on with a sharpie.

James-if that is the detached bodies then nice one! Even I struggle to get them to look that good. Keep up the good work as you have about a fifty year start on me. Just wish I could,ve had the help available on here when I was your age. No one in my part of america even bothered to tie their own flies back in the late fifties!

They are detached bodies, thanks for the kind words I'm sure you can get yours better than mine though

Regarding the legs on these flies, are they good enough (I knotted them myself)? or should I use natural pheasant tail as opposed to black, even though, I think black looks a lot better.

Flies look good James, the legs are fine. Black brown whatever they all look the same to the fish. Well done .

Chris.
