Default ROYD hooks

Hi
has anyone tried them or has any information about them? Are they any good or should be avoided?

Well, I will give them a thumbs up (shoot me now). I use Royd heavy wet fly hooks in 12 and 10 for my grayling nymphs. They have never let me down. They're sturdy, razor sharp - and great value (they compare to the Mustad hooks in the same sizes). Some people hate the mustad hooks as well, but I think they do the job, which is all I'm asking. I use Teimco, Mustad, Royd, Partidge, Kamasan, and Certus (Caimore) hooks, probably a few others, but for wet hooks, these are fine.
You can spend a lot more on hooks, but if you're looking for a bargain and tying a lot on standard sizes then they are great value. I have had the very occasional dud in the box of 100 (a miss-shapened eye a couple of times), but I actually haven't seen one for over a year, and I tie quite a lot of flies, so maybe they are picking out the duds better. I have absolutely no complaints. I also have a few boxes of their dry fly hooks and they are also fine - no problems. Some people seem to feel increadibly strongly that they aren't for them however. If you do a google search for Royd hooks, you'll find some positive and negative feedback. The service and delivery is second to none, so no one can fault that.

hi there ive used them i find them fine ive never had one snap or anything out of the usual. caught pleny on them. its down to you if you like kamasan then theres a differance to the human touch but the fish dont know if you use them. but i would think the kamasan are alot stronger they spring more instead of bend. but i would buy some and give them a try for the sake of £3.00 if you dont like them you can send them to me

Biggest pile of pants ever to be passed off as a hook. Avoid like the new Noel Gallagher album. Your rejection rate will be about 1/4. Shame Royd don't do the quality control in the first place, instead of charging you for the privilege.

See - I said shoot me now...! haha I'm not sure what the hooks were like that you got Scratch, but I haven't had anything like that experience. When did you last buy some?

Hi All, I was told to avoid these hooks after my wife ordered me some from ebay. I got 500 #10 heavy wets for £14 and I've got about half the bag left. Not had a problem with them.

No duds and very sharp. The hook bends are strong and don't straighten out as some suggested. Very good proportion and the eyes are clear with no gaps.

All in all, that's what I want from a hook.

Best regards

Stuart

These hooks are horrific, bought 100 size 10 wet fly hooks and out of that 100 24 were damaged(open eyes, damaged points etc)the coating on them was **** also so i put them in the bin and learnt my lesson.i will never understand how folk will use these as the hook is the most important part of your tackle is it not????how would you feel if you lost the fish of a lifetime because of a cheap sub standard hook????

About two/three years ago, Dunk. Either they've got their act together, or you got lucky.. or both. They were truly abominable last time I checked 'em out. Like I said I got roughly a 20/25% rejection rate. Even their usable ones were pants, and would be rejected by most other manufacturers. I guess it comes down to whether or not you're prepared to just 'make do' with budget hooks.

Mr Royd won't sell to me now. I sent back 100 size 12 buzzer hooks because the points were damaged (snubbed upwards, every damn hook) he said there was nothing wrong with them and has now banned me from his ebay site. I've felt so lucky in my life
