Default Flies and Materials

More questions from me It's the only way to learn...

My Dad is going to a shop tomorrow (Peter Cockwill's albury game fishing) and he said I can make a small list for him of materials to buy.

Please could you take the time just to make a small list of flies (about 5-10) that I could tye that I will find useful on a stillwater but also give me some practice in various areas of fly tying...I am really stuck on this. Would you be able to include some basic materials that will be useful for many different flies? Bronze mallard, coloured marabou e.t.c (that is all I can think of right now)

I would like to tie flies with deer hair, Muddlers and sedgehogs, and some dabblers, lures, maybe some dry flies and nymphs, I am really wanting to try some different types of tying, like Jungle Cock, biots, palmered hackles, and deer as mentioned above.
Please remember I can't go too expensive, however that can be solved next year when I get a job. (about £130 a month too! good for my age!)

All help appreciated.

For the lures consider getting a few packs of Marabou (Olive Green, Orange, Black and White). If you can't get them at the tackle shop try these on ebay 280560023876, good value and perfectly good enough to tie with. Get some booby foam 280745458365 and your away. Also check out your local pound shop for Halloween hair extensions great for streamers and very cheap although I tend to buy most of flytying materials online these days.

Cheap and useful materials for me would be

Pheasant tail
Hares mask
packet of cock hackle (capes and saddles are expensive)
deer belly hair for your muddlers etc...
marabou
booby foam
spanflex for buzzers
pearl mylar or holo tinsel

I would then tear up some old cables to get the wire (never buy copper or silver as most electric cables are full of it!)

these materials will allow you to tie a really wide range of flies.

Thanks for the replies, I do have quite a few materials already, like pheasant tail, hares mask, somre seals fur dubbing, mylar, wire, peacock.

Here is a list of flies that I would like to have a go at, could you please tell me what materials I will need for the most basic types of these flies?

Sedgehogs/Hedgehogs
Muddlers
Adams
Caddis Flies
Dabblers
Lures (Cormorants?)
Palmered hackle or winged wet flies

In your opinion, what would be the best fly for each 'category'above for stillwaters?

A basic menu for Stillwaters would be:

Diawl bach - peacock herl, various ribs - red holo or wire, silver lurex or wire, Mirage flash back, red/brown cock hackle fibres for tail and throat.

Cruncher - Pheas tail, peacock herl, Greenwell hen hackle.

Buzzer - Any material, any colour, usually comma shaped.

Lures - Cats Whisker, Cormorant, Fritz body with marabou tail in black (and green), white, orange, olive etc etc.

Gold ribbed hares ear nymph, Black and Peacock spider, Apps bloodworm, Coves pheasant tail.

Dries - Hoppers, Klinks, Bobs bits, Griffiths Gnat, Black Gnat, F fly (CDC), Deer hair beetle, Adams, Shipmans buzzer

Traditionals - Black Pennel, Blae and black, Invicta, Silver or pearly invicta, Cinnamon and gold, Bibio, Kate Mc Laren.

Just a basic but very effective menu using economical, easily obtained materials!
