Default mono body nymph

Hi folks,

I thought I'd stump up the courage and finally post one of my own. Having looked at natural nymphs and seen how they're sort of translucent, I had a go at recreating this using old 15lb mono wound over olive seals fur. Sorry aboutb eh quality of the pic - any comments and advice very much appreciated (I know the tail and legs are a bit long...). Thanks!

Do you think the tail and legs are to long? I'm not so sure. Scruffy springs to mind and I for one am a big fan of scruffy. The body looks good. 15lb mono mmm I just happen to have...

Think I would like to try the fly before any tweaks-I like it

Chris.

Thanks folks.

The hook is a bit off too - think I'd go a size smaller and probably a lighter hook.

Cracking looking fly as it is!

One thing which I would try, if you have any, is use different colour threads for the body underneath the nylon, maybe yellow or brown (any colour) - looks like your using olive there?. It can be surprising how it can change the look of the fly, lightening or darkening the body - I use this technique tying grayling flies using vinyl rib as you've used the mono.

Well done

Perhaps a tad too long on the legs and tail but scruffy is good. Not sure what hook your using, looks like it might be barbless, if so the FTB 170 is a nice barbless hook that i've been using a lot lately, gauge of wire is spot on for me an d they are nice and strong. I originally bought them in a size 10 to tie carp flies on and they hold up brilliantly for that, but I'm now using them for nymphs too and about to put in an order for some smaller sizes. Phil at flytying boutique can sort you out

Looks good to me, will definitely catch

I've done a similar tie using 0.5mm stretch magic.

I am assuming this would be fished in conjunction with a heavier
fly as there is no mention of weight in the tying, will catch fish still I suppose

I like the body profile and never thought of using mono.

I guess ypu could use permantent marker pens to colour the mono, thus allowing various coloured bodies to be tied.

i think i have some 15 lb + mono in the garage, so will have to di it out and give it6 a try.

Kind Regards
