Default Allandale Tarn's Fly tying club!..

Allandale's Fly Tying Club kicks off on Tuesday the 8th of November, from 7pm ~ 9pm ish!
The first night we will be joined by Paul Buchanan, who is going to share some of his experiences & skills. He has asked me to tell anyone who is coming to also bring their fly boxes with them too!
This week Paul will be talking about entomology & what this means to your fly tying & fishing (handouts will be included) & he will be telling us a bit about some of the fantastic range of the purpose made, barbless hooks available these days! Paul is also particulalry good at demonstrating the tying of traditional wet flies & winged patterns, should you be interested.

Let me know if you are coming along!..
Each week we will set out differnt tying skills to concentrate on learning. But by all means you can come along & feel free to do your own thing! This is about us teaching each other the best way to tye flies, swap tips etc right down to the best tactics to fish them!..(alledgedly. he he he)

Happy tying folks!

Thumbs up First session of the Allandale TarnFly tying club!..

Thanks to everyone who came along for the first night of the tying club & most especially a big thankyou to Paul Buchanan who came along to talk a little about entomology & fly fishing.
For this tying club, we want to make tying flies relevant to your fishing, so that you have an understanding of why you tye flies a particular way & how this effects your fishing/catch rates. Paul gave us all a fantastic handout to take away also, containing some great images, info on beasties & a superb match the hatch guide for both loch style & river fishing. Definetly a booklet for keeping!..
These tying nights are also about swapping tips & knowledge with each other. So also a big thanks to Lee moore for demonstrating how to use an actual whip finish tool, as neither myself nor Paul had a clue on that wee device. We're both all fingers when it comes to finishing flies but I know many tyers find a finishing tool much easier!..
Next week I'll doing my bit on the differnt hackles types & the various ways to use them for both wet & dry patterns. But remember you don't have to follow this demonstration. Feel free to come along & do your own thing on each night & share your own knowledge on tying with others!..

Happy tying folks!

Hi Iona

With regards to your club have you thought about becoming either a branch or an affiliated group of the flydressers guild?

Lots of benefits to this - both for the group and the members plus you really don't have to become to 'formal'

Drop me a PM and I can fill you in with all the relevant info if you are interested

Cheers

Paul
