Anyone know what this is, almost 3" long from eye to bend

No idea, but 'blind eye' flies are my fav to muck around with on the bench. Do Steelhead/Pacific Salmon care?

Usual ties are 8's to 10's but you want to really play ...Oooooo.

I thought it may be a Dusty Miller, but I know very little about Salmon Flies.

[whereabouts in Manchester are you? I have a couple of hundred other old gut eyeds that need identifying - I'm in the North East corner]

It's defiantly not a Jock Scott, nor does it look much like a Dusty Miller. It may well be a local variant, based upon a trad dressing. F.F.I. try either Classic Fly Tying (Powered by Invision Power Board) or Home I'd be very surprised if it's not on one of those 2 sites.
