If you mean this website, its only about 16% of original price (£310) and it is not under £200, at £260? Wish it was under £200....

Snowbee/Waldron Vice - Fly Tying

Anyway, when i had just started a few weeks, ago, the only tools I have now are: A vice (obviously) Ceramic Bobbin holder, Scissors, half hitch tool (or whip finisher), dubbing brush (lolly pop stick with velcro stuck on), wax, varnish (with brush, or just use a dubbing needle, your choice) dubbing needle and a dubbing twister (you probably won't need this yet, it depends on how you like doing dubbing, and it is sometimes used in different fly patterns)

So far I have got on fine with just these tools, although I would like a new vice, the one I have is borrowed, have a look at the snowbee fly mate

Snowbee Fly Mate Pedestal Vice | Buy Online at AtkinsAngling.com

seems to be a good beginner vice, something I have been considering.

Hope this helps

You've never tied a fly and are going to spend nearly £200 on a vice?

I've been tying for a year now, and have spent less than £300 in total, including vice, hooks and materials, but can turn out a decent fly now and again.

When you start out you just need something to hold a hook, after that you might want the features that the Waldron provides.

I started with a cheap Indian lever type from an old kit, [which you can have for free if you want], but since spent £25 on a rotatable Regent. Perfectly adequate, and still used even by some commercial tyers.

Spend your money on decent materials, they will make a difference that a hook-holder never will.

Buying a Ferrari won't make you a better driver, and the depreciation will be worse.

wow, never seen a vice like this so cheap, I think it is worth considering, but still, you should start with a cheaper vice, until you feel like you really do need an upgrade, it's a shame that essential fly does not stock the snowbee fly mate, 25% of that would be about £34, very cheap, yet it still has the same features as the waldron, it is fully rotatable, even if it doesn't look great...

I'd love to know how many tyers use the full rotational facility.

Even the sainted Davie McPhail sets his jaws at an angle that negates the function, and still winds by hand, using a LAW vice like a posh Regent.
