Default Soft Hackle/North Country Spiders

i have recently started fly tying and am very interested in tying and fishing soft hackle/north country spiders on my local streams.

after searching the internet, i am overwhelmed on the number of diffferent types and was hoping for forum members advice on a selection of soft hackle/north country spiders.

i would be grateful if forum members could list their top five north country spiders.

My top five are:

1. Snipe & Purple,
2. Partiridge & orange
3. Waterhen Bloa
4. Black Spider
5. Dun Spider

Thanks in advanced.

Kind Regards

Well I'm not goin to be predictable here and spurt the obvious ones, which when I first started tying spiders, would have been my choice but has since changed. But I have many that I like for different reasons whether it be for catch success rate, fun to tie or just plane looks. Here's some I have come to appreciate over time for a mixture of the above reasons.

1. Stewart's black spider
2. Olive bloa
3. Dark watchett
4. Rough olive
5. Violet midge

I'll just add one to the list that you have already got: Greenwell's spider.

I just wondered what size hook you time them on or is it a case that you tie ythe same pattern on a range of hook sizes 14 - 18 ?

Kind Regards

Definitely on different size hooks for each pattern. 14 to 18s is a good range.
