Default Fly tying tuition / classes in North Lanarkshire area

Hi Guys [and Girls if applicable],
I'm interested in learning the art of tying and wondered if anybody knows of any clubs or individuals or groups in the Nth Lanarkshire [I'm in Coatbridge]area.

Would be good to be able to get together on a "regular" basis particularly over the winter months with other tiers, experienced and novices alike to learn and share the knowledge, and the patter

cheers

Hi Flyguy, if you approach Airdrie & District Angling Club at Hillend Reservoir I'm sure you would be welcome at the classes they hold during the winter.

Riverclydefishing.com have a fly tying club held in Law villae bowling club every winter, it should be kicking off again soon and it is free.

See Riverclydefishing.com

There is also a flytying club in Uddingston called the sharp & gentles club, costs about £5 per year and £1 per night.
clydestyleflys

Pm me if you need more info about either club.

Lauren / Reidy10,

Thanks for the replies, Airdrie Angling Club is local, using Hillend Loch, didn't realise they had a tying club.

Reidy10, I'll be in touch for further details,

again thanks.

I used to go to the Airdrie and District flytying nights, that's where I learned to tie. Sadly I think they stopped having the tying classes last year but I will find our for definite tonight or tomorrow.
They really should get them up and running again and with the facilities we now have they could invite guest tiers to the Lodge to do demonstrations and talks etc.

Old Jock,
I'm sure it would do no harm in starting something like this up again, especially over the winter months, could also be an opportunity to bring on some younger fly fishers given time, especially if it was an "entertaining" social night with as you say maybe guest tiers etc.

If you do get any updates please keep us posted.

I phoned Hillend Lodge today, Think it was Bud who answered.
He told me there were no plans to have tying classes this year due to lack of interest which is a shame as only a couple of years ago these nights were well attended.
Next time I get a chance I am going to discuss the possibility of starting these up again as the new lodge is a superb venue for tying nights etc. Like I say with the new lodge etc it has the potential to host classes and demos etc from guest tyers. With the correct promotion and advertising this could be really succesful. I think the committee should seriously think about looking into this. They would be in a better position than me with the know how and the like to get this off the ground.

Hi Guys, it's in Udston, not Uddingston See note below from Billy. I started three weeks ago and loving it (Mike)

The Sharp/Gentles Fly Tying Club starts back on Thurs 1st Sept at 7.00pm in the Udston Bowling Club, Burnbank, Hamilton.

The club has now been running for 55years, and is still going strong.

The club specialises in tying Clyde Style Flies, although all types of flies are tied at the club, traditional Loch Flies, Rainbow Lures as well as Salmon Flies.

Anyone wishing to join, or even pop in for a blether and see how we operate is more than welcome, we have first class instructors for those who are just starting out, right down to guest tyers for the more experienced.

We run right through the winter until Easter every Thursday at 7.00pm.
