Am hoping the above two flies come up on screen !
The CDC fly is my CDC and Herl, a great great fly on rivers, especially when there are terrestrials about, or nothing at all hatching . I used it so much and so successfully at the start of the season, towards mid season, that I had to stop. Its only weakness is the CDC, which requires management and patience. In the pics, the peacock herl looks bit bushy , and same with the CDC. The body is actually quite thin, but i think i tied in a double strand of herl. I guess trout take it for a big trapped terrestrial. Spencer tested it and lost a 2lb Grayling with it. I caught dozers of trout on it.
The next fly is even better - taken from Bob Wyatts DVD , its a (very) slimmed down Deer Hair Sedge . Bob claims he uses this 80% (!) of the time on rivers, and that it also covers spinners. Its a brilliant , brilliant fly - it worked for sedge hatches, Olives, and when no flies were coming off , from when i started using it a few months ago. I tie it with rabbit fur ( i find it spikier than hare's fur .....sometimes mix squirral in too ) , and deer hair wing, on a Tiemco 103BL hook, usually size 17 . My tying here isnt the best - the wing looks too cocked, and should perhaps sit a bit flatter to the body.
If the pics dont come up , will post again, but these flies are truly deadly and worth trying.
