Default Why Wax?

I read a thread recently about how to build up a good sized head on your fly. The most interesting reply (for me) was some clever ways to apply less wraps. This got me thinking about the way I do things. I rarely use wax thinking pre-waxed is sufficient. Oh and I'm a lazy tyer .

I started looking at the various waxes available which led me to Bill Bailey of Indiana and his selection of purpose made waxes. I ordered and recieved a selection of the three types he sells. I knew straight away that this stuff was different. The dubbing stuck the thread . I won't go into the differences now but Bill very kindly sent me this link:
Why wax, article on fly tying by Anders Isberg

Must say also that the standard of service I recieved from BB was second to none. Definately in my good traders folder and recommended.

I was particlarly interested in how wax can help you to make less wraps, it's made me reconsider how I do things.

Very interested in your thoughts on this.

Chris.

P.S. Bill is on here: wsbailey

Chris, thanks for posting this, interesting article.
I had noticed a similar approach from Davie McPhail on a number of his videos. It was mainly to ensure that little bit extra grip without the need for extra wraps.

Yep, looks good to me. Anything to stop me wrapping needlessly . I like the idea of waxing the bit you're tying thus stopping the wax getting inside the bobbin holder. When I first started you would think I was waxing a bow string .

I have started to use wax a lot more recently. I use it quite sparingly however, as too much can cause a bit of 'build up' on the thread. Just a couple of 'flicks' is enough to provide the extra grip....
