Default A Few Snatchers

I'm not too hot at these, so spent a couple of hours tonight having a wee practice. Various materials but using the correct hooks this time

C+C most welcome.

Gary

Nicely done Gary
Heads are looking much better.
There are a couple that are a bit too heavily palmered for my tastes and probably would have been better if the feather was stripped on one side.
The other thing was I think the gold rib on the 1st one is a bit thick for the fly and a step down in size or even gold wire would balance it better.

Stan will be along shortly to chastise you for over hackling your snatchers Gary.. they will still catch the way you've tied them.

Cheers for the comments and tips, I agree with the gold, I've not much silver oval left so used up some gold, it is rather wide though.

I'm no expert on snatchers but the hackles look slightly long Gary, don't know if your'e useing saddle hackles or not, which would be a better option, roughly about the hooks gape in fibre length and maybe use a hen hackle for the head hackle with slightly longer fibres. Your fly tying is really coming on, the key is to refine it every time, your photos are useful as they show exactly what you have done and where improvements might be made and you have the vital ingredient for fly tying.....enthusiasm, keep it up.

Thanks Wingman, I'll be giving these another go this evening with smaller, semi stripped hackles to reduce the bulk.
