Default Mites

Help please.

I've just moved house and in the process of unpacking my tying gear I noticed a few wee scuttling beasties. All my tying kit is in one cardboard box and most, but not all, is in sealed bags.

Is there any way of getting rid of them, or should I bin the lot and start again?

If it's the latter I think I will give up.

You could try putting everything in the freezer for a few days when you get the chance.

Aye, put everything into poly bags and freeze it for a week...wash things you think have been infested....

Just got worse, my fly boxes are in there, and in opening them up I found a couple more. I've moved the lot to the shed where I was going to set up my tying room, desperate now.

Only got a fridge freezer with one shelf, t'aint big enough to quarantine the lot.

Your stuff in the bags should be OK.but loose stuff should be treated with napthalene crystals.nuclear bombs.

Thanks Jim, if there's a mushroom cloud over South Bristol tomorrow night you'll know what happened.

Oddly, next door has an enormous chest, could be a chat-up line.

If you are going to freeze, a single treatment may not be enough. The freezing will kill the live bugs BUT NOT the eggs. Freeze and then wait 2 weeks for any eggs to hatch and freeze again.

heard putting stuff in the microwave for 20-30 secs will destroy ant mites/eggs, if that doesnt work go to a pet shop like pets at home etc and get a flea/mite treatment for cats and use that, first defence seems a good one!
