Default A few Bumbles

Far from perfect and not strictly by the book, but near enough

Some nice colour combinations there Gary. All definate fish catchers, but a bit of work still required up front.

not bad at all garyj
you just need to watch your proportions.what hook size are you using?
they look like a 12 or 14, try practicing on a 10 then progress to 12's and 14's

They're #10 B160's.
The heads are a bit of a mess and the JC cheeks need work; I'm splitting larger feathers as I don't have any smaller available.
I'll be having another go at these soon; they're a wee bit fiddly for me at present.

Cheers for the comments guys.

Gary

Your getting there Gary
For bumbles I would have liked them to be a bit denser as they seem a little sparse.
I tend to palmer and then put on a hen head hackle before drawing back the blue jay.

Try a b175 instead of the 160,s Gary,it will give you a bit more room to work with mate.

I have 175's on order Wullie, only 170's at the moment, I'll give them a try through the week

Gary, go with what everyone's saying & try a finer grade of thread, ideally Uni 8/0 or Bennechi 12/0. You'll be surprised at the difference that'll make. Then you can use a 2nd coat of varnish to give a smoother head finish.
