salar double salmon hooks

hello i am looking to start salmon fishing for next season and have bought a few cheap pack off double hooks off ebay but they are all twisted and are baisically rubbish so i am looking to buy some gold salar double hooks in size 9 does any one know where i can get them at a reasonable price? as they are pretty dear on ebay, i know these hooks are not going to be cheap but if any one knows where i could maybe get a few for decent price i would be very greatfull.

Hi Micheal & welcome along.

If you pay peanuts etc. you end up paying twice as you've found out.


Genuine Partridge Salar's are made in fairly small quantities, as the demand for them dictates not scaling up to much, hence the price. There are other hooks, which will do a similar job & not be quite as expensive, Deer Creek - Home page (& others) offer alternatives, such as their "Trutta" range which whilst only in 6's & 8's are of a similar quality, but a lot more realistically priced.

You get what you pay for.
Cheaper copies are often very poor quality.
They might look the same but don't perform the same.
This go's for other fly tying materials not just hooks.

cheers for the replys lads totally understand were you are coming from think i will just buy some partrige ones off ebay but i will also get some of them trutta ones as they look ok, i am just starting to tie salmon flies as all i have tied before are trout flies, just been buying arctic fox furs and so on so see how it goes.
