Default Pheasant tail thorax colour

Hi all
The pheasant tail nymph in all it's forms is Probably my used pattern, just wondering what is your favourite throax material for said fly and do you include legs?
Mine would have to be peacock herl, as it seems to add real life to the fly. I also add legs by using the ends of the thorax cover, have no idea if this makes any difference bit it does look more satisfying in the vice.

You are right about using the thorax cover for legs, looks good. I tend to use baby seals fur in numerous colours for the thorax, red being my favourite.

The original is what does it for me. Copper wire and pheastant tail, quick, easy, and works a treat.

For years the PTN has been my jinx fly, I could never catch anything on it until I tied some up with natural grey rabbit fur on the thorax which was an instant success for some reason.

I include the spiky hairs in the dubbing which I presume gives an impression of legs to the fish? Any way for whatever reason, it works for me
