Default Beginner Vices?

I am hoping to start fly tying this year, and I am looking around for a decent vice, looking for one the has a rotating facility and it needs to be pedestal, as the computer/work desk in my Bedroom is very thick round the edge due to a decorative thing round the edge.

Not looking to buy a vise right now, just grateful for any suggestions for when I start hopefully in the near future, but bear in mind that the price range is anything up to about £70

I have lookied at the Snowbee Fly Mate Vise - Pedstal version, but am not sure whether or not it has the rotatable arm. Also which flies would be best to start with?

James

The Snowbee Flymate is rotatable and is great value for money.

Hi James,
I returned to fly fishing/tying recently and after advise on the Forum, I purchased the Snowbee FlyMate clamp version. I really have nothing negative to say about it at all. It has full rotation and a feature that when rotated, the shank of the hook turns on its own axis which is handy for tying false hackles etc. For the money ( I got mine from Atkins Angling for a good price), it has all the features I'll ever need.

As for flies to start with - you will get terrific advice from the guys on here, but I started with hares ear, pheasant tail nymphs, black pennels, cats whiskers, black and peacock spiders.

Once you start tying you will not be able to stop - very addictive!!

John.

Thanks for both your replies, I think i will stick with the fly mate and see if I can get hold of one of those, and I appreciate your help with the beginner flies

Thanks again

James
