I tied up a few bugs today, experimenting with some new materials from Fly Tying Boutique. I wanted something other than my usual GRHE, something smaller for low water conditions. It got to about 2pm and I realised I had a small window of opportunity to test them out so I set off for my local club water, armed with my 10' 4wt to have a live firing exercise to see which (if any) could catch me a fish. I'd have to say it was tough going, and the usual hot spots failed to turn up a winner.
In the end I had one fish and dropped one, both coming to the same fly. Anyone care to hazard a guess as to the winning pattern?

"Firebug"

"Brassie"

"GreenThing"

"GreyGrub"
A few bead head nymphs as a prize to the first correct answer. I'll post a picture of the successful pattern in a Wild Brown Trout's top lip sometime tomorrow. One in four chance, not the hardest competition ever!
