I use one of these - clamps to my vice stem and I can move it out of the way when not needed.

Flytying Boutique - for unusual and interesting materials

Much more practical than using a mag and lamp combined - easy just to swing it into place when I need to check the ribbing or something else on a micro pattern!

Kind regards

Picked up one of those in Aldi a while back for £7.99 iirc, works for me although it can get in the way at times.

Aldi have some magnifiers with flexible stem and LED lighting. Mine cost me £3-99 last week perfect for tying and every bit as good as others

I finally gave up with the desk magnifiers and now I wear a magnifier that fits around the head. Such as what jewelers wear. A lot of tyers do not like them but it works for me..
My vision is getting worse -old age sucks!

Have you tried a pair of cheapo-reading glasses? with say a 3x on them, if your eyes vary a bit, then get 2 identically shaped pairs with differing power lenses & simply swap them to suit. That way you'll waste 1/2 the cost, but it's a lot cheaper than the optician would charge & they give you full access to your vice & bench.
