Default Fly Tying - Help required

Hi All,
I have been fly fishing for a year or so now and would like to try tying my own.
I am worried about running off down the wrong route so to avoid that i am looking for some advice from you more experienced guys and gals.

What gear do i need to buy to get me started? There appears to be so much choice in tying gear, vices etc.. at various prices/brands .. I have no idea what i should look for?

Is there anyone / anywhere i can learn on a face to face basis in West Yorkshire? Maybe a club of some sort? I learn much better being shown rather than trying to work out from diagrams in a book.

Thanks in advance.

I did an introduction course at Wharfedale Angling Classics in Otley, only a couple of hours but well worth the £30 it cost me.

Thanks for your replies guys. I will look into these and hopefully get myself sorted. Been looking on eBay at people selling up tying materials and vices... Might just get something like that to try it before investing too heavily!

Gary,
When I get some spare time away from work I would love to pop over ... Thanks for the offer..I will be in touch in the near future.

Paramedicpete,
I caught a nice brownie last weekend on those tiny littlelittle flees you sent me from the auction... they're a swine to tie on the Tippett though, could hardly see the eye in the hook!

Regards

Always tempting to grab an apparent bargain, but if you can hold out before buying until you've had some advice, you might avoid buying some cr@p. You could always ask on here if a particular item is good value.
I would seriously avoid buying a kit until someone has advised you - you can end up with a lot of stuff you may never use.

Find out what flies you intend to use and only buy the materials for those flies. Try to get some lessons first or someone to mentor you. Don't by any expensive kit until you have some experience under your belt.

Here is a good starter vice that will not break the bank and will use a variety of fly sizes

Fly Tying Flyman 'Royal' Vice | eBay

and here

Veniard Beginner's Guide to Fly Tying Materials Pack

But check out our own guys on here who will also sort you out with a good starter setup
