Default new tyer constructive criticism welcome

Hi guys

I have finally plucked up the courage to post a few pics of some recent attempts for C&C, been lurking for a long long time,I am a new ish tyer, 1-2 months. I bought a vice and materials from humungus on here.

Heres a couple of scruffy CDC emergers and cruncher variations, the crunchers are tied with red thread torepresent corixia in my local lake as the trout have been hard on them, yet to trial them..... also the emergers are based on Sarg's OH buzzer he uses they have a little cross over thread on the bend for the shuck and a little red marabou in the CDC for the wind buds.

Would I be better tying them on a straight shank dry hook? I think I also
need to dub a little more on the thorax around the CDC and head.

all input welcome........

Seth

Have you done the water test yet?

You'll find out quick enough if your proportions are right.

Glass of water job - you get to see how they may sit in the water without a wave.

Liking them a lot, very nice for a 2 months tying! Those crunchers look very good, liking the palmering and colours.

Not to much criticism i'm afraid lol

daniel thankyou very much, just using the materials I have in the setup. not all appropriate but seeming to do the job.

here is some wet images, looking nice, just want to trial them now[img][/img] [img][/img] [img][/img] [img][/img] [img][/img]

the sunk images are after a couple of pushes under, but they are just holding themselves, nice footprint and the red seems to work ok,

the first image has a weird looking hook point due to the curve in the glass and refraction (i think).

Try Tiemco 200Rs or Lathkills equivs cheaper.

Nice hook for CDC Emergers.

Keep tying ... chop and rub mix dubbing in palm of hand with one finger before tying thread. Unruly long dubbing on emergers can cause pattern to fall sideways in film. Scale dubbing fibres to pattern size.

As you already know, when it comes to catching fish, nowt wrong with scruffy.

For the emergers, for my taste the loop is a little large and the forward feathers a little long - it makes them look very large in the water, from my end, but I don't suppose the trout will care.
Again, I prefer a curved hook just for the look of it, but imo straight hooks work just as well.

I like to put a turn or two between the forward feather and the eye of the hook just to lift it a little. I don't know if it really sits any better but it makes tying the knot easier without catching in a load of cdc.

What size thread are you using?

a good start

Sometimes the more fish a fly catches the better it gets, ive started the day on a crisp new fly and caught on it all day until its basically a bit of thread on a hook, dont get too caught up on how it looks, shape and size is far more important.
