Default Type 4 CDC feather

Think this has been asked recently but cant find thread .....

What is a type 4 cdc feather ....is this the biggest / longest cdc feather on the duck ?

Need it for a pattern in Bob Wyatts book....the CDC and Elk Cripple

Incidentally, as i was typing this , a small little olive with two tails and oversized wings landed on my hand and stayed there as i typed for a few seconds

Anyone know what type of olive it might be?

here is a nice article on the "cdc & elk family"

The CDC & Elk family - Hans Weilenmann's CDC & Elk is a fly as good as they come. Still a lot of people - including Hans himself - have made variations - Global FlyFisher
