Default Woocock and yellow

Another traditional pattern and very effective at that, the woodcock and yellow, I've used a golden olive cock hackle instead of a yellow or light red one and yellow seals fur for the body. Tied on a kamasan B175 size 12.

A cracker Mark. Nice to see a lovely variation on a traditional north country spider pattern. I'll have six in size 18 please?

Yum, Yum!
I know we (I) are always picking your brains, but how do you manage to get those lovely heads - do you build up the varnish?

Thanks everyone for the positive remarks, the woodcock and yellow is a popular clydestyle fly and if I tied it in that style it would look quite different from the one above or should I say a much more sparse tying of it anyway.

Mostly just a drop of varnish Bill, put on the head with a dubbing needle (or finer sewing needle for smaller flies), left to dry then another drop of varnish applied. I've never used a brush but should try it someday to compare it.

Well spotted horses50, I would describe the seals fur as being of a greeny yellow colour rather than a full yellow primary, but then again I'm colorblind so don't take my word for it.
