Default Best thread for Pike flies

Hi guys,
I am now going to try my hand at pike flies and i will obviously need to beef things up a bit.
Whats the best thread on the market and where will i get it?
Also what materials would you recommend?

Cheers

Munro

For tying with strength & a bit of bulk, kevlar is probably best but only in a few colours & not white. Most dealers stock it from either Veniard or Wapsi, to tell you the truth they look, handle & feel identical.

For smaller flies, where a compact head is required, most of the g.s.p's like Power Silk, Riny Suiter's et al. are better. Lakeland & other specialist dealers carry them, but this time only Powersilk's in colours, the rest are (mostly) white but colour up with perm markers.

With the latter threads, because they're very smooth you will need to whip finish twice & then apply super-glue before varnishing or coat with Diamondhard tackfree U.V. resin.

I like UNI 'big fly' thread - kevlar stuff is tough on scissors and pricey

I have seen the Piketek website before, the X ray stuff looks good.
I will need to drop the guy a email and get a few things.

Cheers

UTC 140 is likely all you need if you want coloured thread. Else just use Uni mono in fine.

I got some Uni big fly to get me started.
I have also made a order for materials and thread from piketrek.

Thanks for the advice, it is now time to experiment
