Default Fly Tying desk

I haven't been on for a while, I stopped coming on during my exams and didn't really get started again.

I have been fishing a bit but not much, also I haven't been tying much as my dad has been replacing the ceilings in the upstairs and my tying stuff is behind a large stack of plasterboard and stuff.

So my dad is getting me a new table for in the back room where he paint and I would tie flies but we've got it narrowed down to 2 that will fit in but what would you say is better for working at a deep table thats not very wider or the opposite?

Thanks
AL

I'd say having a table/desk allowing you to work at a comfortable height is more important. Obviously a fancy chair could remedy that but height would be my first thought. If you've already got that covered, then ignore this.

Hope the exams went well.

I'ld prefer wide to deep as this way I can just reach to either side for material rather than having to reach over my vice and other material.
Can you imagine reaching over the vice to pick up the head cement and accidentally spilling it just as it's over a cape or CDC? In one case the monetary loss plus difficulty of replacement and in the other the mess!

Take care

Terry

AL,

I have a tray desk from this company Oasis Benches, The Finest in Fly Tying Benches!. Although I usually use it on top of a table, it can be carried around and placed upon your knees, whilst sitting - you could then get to watch 'Coronation street'!

With the time you have available, it would not be too difficult to build.

Hope the exams went well- bet you're glad to be shot of them

It's great to have a lot of space etc but it isn't a necessity, so whichever fits best into your room, I'd say.

Due to reasons outside my control, I've been turfed out of the spare bedroom and am currently tying on a collapsible kitchen chair - no real problem

We went for a walk round Ikea and think we're just going to compromise and go for a wider and deep desk.

I might be able to get a computer on the table as well, fly tying and the forums at once could be a bad combo
