Default Red Badger

I'd like to tie up some Calvin's Shrimps:

Salmon Flies: Calvin's Shrimp

But I'm having difficulty sourcing Red Badger, does anyone know of any suppliers?

You may end up by having to do them yourself with red hackles & a permanent marker if you only need a few. Dyed capes can be seen on ebay now & again, but look very closely before you buy !

It's the wrong name, there is no such thing. The correct name for the feather is "Furnace" and it is a pretty common colour that in the sizes you need for the fly would be perfectly met by a cheap Indian cape. Cookshill will certainly be able to supply you with a decent "Furnace" cape.

Richard - judging by the photos, I think what Nick is after is silver badger dyed red - a full on red not a "red game" red.

Oh! It was looking at the photographs that made me decide it was a furnace hackle. A badger hackle has black edges as well as the black list down the stalk. The hackle in the photographs has no black edges.

It's a common thing to find natural pale furnace hackles in rummage boxes of indian capes. They are quite useful as the list makes a pretty good suggestion of a thorax on dry flies.

Lakeland have some dyed brahma sets at an eye watering £32 or give John at McHardy's a call. His wife sometimes dyes up some Indian Badger capes in all sorts of colours for about £8.

With Black edges it's a coch-y-bond(d)u, (spelling).

Quite right. The hackle in the pictures looks to me like furnace though.

Sorry for the late reply and thanks to those that have replied. Yes I think it's a dyed Silver Badger Cape that I'm after. The Lakeland one's look nice but not for the price! I think I will give McHardys a call and see if he can die one for me. Thanks Tenet.
