I have never got the hang of winding thread through the hackle without crushing too much down.

Just tied a couple with a green butt on them. Nowhere near as good as Davie's, but they look ok and will take fish.
Give them a go.

Just tied a couple myself, inspired by Davie's video.
Not a patch on his, but a lot better than I thought they would be, they actually resemble a Daddy, and they will catch fish without a doubt.
Taken a few fish lately on them in these parts.
