Default Painting Foam?

Hi there , i'm looking to paint little wingbuds on booby eye dowels like on the 'KJ Suspender Buzzer' but my Humbrol Enamel seems too thin .
Going to leave the lid off for a few hours to see if it thickens up a bit , but do you have any other ideas or products .

Cheers Derek

It will probably dry okay, but won't stick all that well as it's not made to work on soft/flexible surfaces. Probably better to try one of the tee-shirt type paints.

Oh & welcome along to the forum.

Cheers for the advice and welcome, Arkle .

I went for 'Dylon 3D puff paint' as it was the only one which didn't require 'iron fixing' , never ironed foam before but i predict a smelly black mess. Flies drying as i type .

Are there brands of fabric paint you recommend?

Cheers Derek

If you can find some then ''Plasticote'' was great for painting foam.but it might have been taken off the market.B&Q or hobby shops
It came in brush on and spray.the brush on was perfect.
Brilliant colours.

Humbrol Enamel #209(Fire Orange) looked like the colour for me because it seemed the identical shade to Glo-Brite floss#5, but once dry it just chipped and cracked under a little pressure . I'm guessing that Plasticote and fabric paints are some sort of rubber solution like Copydex glue?

We'll see tomorrow if my fabric paint is up the job .

Cheers Derek

Please EVERYBODY that's posted here, READ BOTH the first 2 posts. HUMBROL WON'T work. I'm not shouting, just trying to prevent you from repeating previously given info.

I designed the Kelly Johnson (as it was initialy called-changed by Fulling Mill to KJ suspender buzzer.Check August 2010 Fly Fishing and Fly Tying mag).
I first used white plastizote so i could colour wing buds with pantones but found that matt 34 white base coat with Matt 25 fluro pink/orange worked well and had durability.
Have been experimenting with Yellow plastizote cylinders colouring them with pantones and then a dip in clear varnish to give pens a bit harder wearing. You can achieve quite a realistic finish.
Please let me know where they have been working as interested to get verdict and opinion of others and from other venues.
Hope that might help.
Elliot

Over on the other side of the water the craft stores sell paints that work with foam right next to each other. Not the best selection of colours, but they are compatible. Not sure how well any paint would last if the foam gets worked over.
