Default Yellow Owl (My 1st attempt at a flee)

Looking for some critique here if you please.
I've only ever tied a few epoxy buzzers so this is my first real attempt at tying a fly; I think I remember tying a Palmer when I was a Kid

Anyway, after Friday evening on the Loch and witnessing a tremendous hatch of Yellow Owls (Curly Bums), I just had to tie a few myself an hopefully try them this weekend

The body is simply yellow/gold thread and the ribbing is permanent marker, thorax is a couple of different colours of seals fur dubbing (probably synthetic) and a couple of CDC feathers.

As I say, looking for critique here as I have a lot to learn.

Gary

They will do the trick, similar to some of mine for The Loch

Hi Gary ,
I'm sure they'll still catch but don't be afraid to take the body further around the bend buddy .

The 2nd one for me I just feel that the other 2 could do with a little less dubbing.

As above a bit further round the bend and maybe do the dubbing last and cover the thread near the head with it.

Nearly there, a bit of fine tuning is all that's needed. Well done-stick with it.

Chris.

Agree with Dabhoy.

Also black thread makes a nice rib.
I find that if I bring the cdc too close to the eye as in No. 3, it's difficult to tie the knot without catching in some cdc.
